Punchy Bag in Shady Job

The cargo is alive. Carry it gently, pin it fast, never slam it.

Punchy Bag in Shady Job

The body bag is the whole job. Steam’s pitch is blunt: carry it to the top of a skyscraper, bury it in concrete, and survive the fact that the body is not dead. GAZE IN GAMES called it Punchy Bag during playtests. Official shots show black taped cargo, not a ragdoll in a joke sack. It struggles, escapes, breaks structures, and pushes players off ledges. It gets more aggressive if you handle it too roughly.

This page is the handling manual. Party structure is on co-op. Pathing is on building. The tool you use when hands are not enough is the Plunger Gun. If you have not run the grab-build-climb-bury loop once, start at Getting Started. The Steam launch is September 10, 2026. Nothing here invents a hidden rage meter number or a damage table.

What Punchy Bag actually does

Treat the bag as a third (or fifth) crew member with no loyalty.

  • Struggles while carried. The carrier’s job is to keep their feet on a finished surface, not to win a wrestling clip.
  • Escapes when the grip is sloppy, when two people fight over it, or when a fall interrupts the carry. An escaped bag is still the objective. It will not wait on the last plank.
  • Breaks structures. A span that would hold three workers may not hold three workers plus a thrashing cargo. Builders must assume the bag is a wrecking ball with opinions. See building.
  • Pushes people off ledges. High-rise work plus a shove is a wipe. The plunger lookout exists for this, not for sightseeing the city, the cranes, or the giant golden statue.
  • Gets meaner if handled roughly. Slams, yeets, using the bag as a ram through a window, and bouncing it down stairs are how you teach it to fight. Gentle is faster than tough.

Press and trailer coverage sit in the same lane as Peak and Dear Passengers: one physics object, several people, vertical failure. The difference is that Peak’s mountain does not punch you from inside a duffel. Do not role-play a corpse. Role-play a hostage who can kick.

How to carry it

One carrier. That is the rule. A second pair of hands is for a handoff on a stable floor, not a two-person tug. Call Bag in voice so the crew knows who is allowed to touch it. HUD language for the rest of the body is on controls: green bar bottom-left, slots 1 and 2. Official shots put a SANDWICH and an INDUSTRIAL FAN in those slots. Food and fan are not bag substitutes. Effects are still being catalogued pre-launch; do not invent a “feed the bag” trick.

Carry on finished path, not on the block someone is still placing. If the builder says wait, you wait. If the bag starts a fight on a narrow span, plant. Do not sprint. Do not jump with it unless the plunger already has a backup cup on a wall. Floor numbers painted on walls (shots show 13) are how you report location when the cargo starts walking itself.

Handoffs: carrier stops, bag is set down or passed, new carrier confirms they have it, old carrier steps off the span. If you skip the confirm, you get a bag-shaped hole in the skyline and a co-op argument.

Toilets, barrels, and other physics props are for ramps and extra weight on a platform. They are not disguises for Punchy Bag. Do not bury the objective under a toilet and call it stealth. The mafia already knows what you are carrying.

Plunger yanks without starting a war

Hands fail. That is what the Plunger Gun is for. On-screen prompts are SHOOT, PULL / RELEASE, and DROP.

  • Shoot the bag when it is sliding toward a drop or crawling off a floor. Shoot a wall when you need a tether so the carrier can walk.
  • Pull in short bursts. A full panic-Pull can throw the carrier, the bag, and a chunk of scaffold in the same direction.
  • Release when the line is winning against the structure instead of against the escape.
  • Drop the cup if it is stuck to a doomed plank or to a teammate who needs to be a person again, not a pendulum.

The plunger player is not the backup carrier. If they start dragging Punchy Bag like luggage across gaps, aggression goes up and the span comes down. Pin, then let the carrier resume. Full tool use, including climbing and teammate rescue, is on the Plunger Gun page. Do not invent a fan-stun combo because slot 2 showed an industrial fan in a screenshot.

Do not slam it

Rough handling is the only aggression rule the store states in plain language. Translate that into site rules:

  • No using the bag to break walls. Break walls with the environment tools; the building page covers destructible walls and windows.
  • No dropping the bag as a test of physics. You already know it is a physics object.
  • No launching it off cranes or moving platforms “to save time.” Time saved is spent on the recovery.
  • No stacking the bag under extra props to pin it unless the crew has a plunger ready. A pinned bag that wakes up angry still has to ride the rest of the tower.

If the green bar is doing something you do not like while you are being clever with cargo, stop being clever. The bar is unnamed in official art; it is still a warning light.

Recovery when it escapes

Escapes will happen. Playtest LEVEL 2 (Wave 4, August 14, 2026) did not remove the bag’s personality; it added more site to lose it in. Playtests themselves ended August 31, 2026.

  1. Call the last floor and a heading. “It left” is not a call.
  2. Stop building the vanity span. Extra blocks on a path the bag is not using is how you split the crew.
  3. One chaser, one pin. Carrier or floater runs. Plunger Shoots. Builder holds the last stable floor so there is a place to return.
  4. Re-grip gently. The instinct after a chase is to slam the cargo in revenge. That is how the next escape starts sooner.
  5. Check people before path. A shove may have put someone in a fall or in ice. Press shots show electric hazard floors and a teammate frozen solid. Rescue with the plunger, then move. Fall recovery procedure is on co-op.

If the bag beats you to a lower floor, you are not “behind on the walkthrough.” You are on a new carry from that floor. The walkthrough compares bag-first versus path-first so you stop parking cargo on an unfinished idea. Ice, electric, cranes, and the roof bury are route problems; Punchy Bag is the reason those problems have a timer.

Keep patch notes open after September 10, 2026 in case handling changes. Until then, the store sentence is enough: handle it too roughly and it gets more aggressive. Other how-tos sit on the Guides Hub. The preview can talk about the joke. On the site, the bag is the client.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions.

Why do the developers call it Punchy Bag?

That was GAZE IN GAMES' playtest nickname for the living cargo. Handling rules are on this page; invite history is on the playtest recap.

Does slamming the bag actually make it worse?

Steam says it gets more aggressive if you handle it too roughly. Do not slam it, yeet it, or ram doors with it. Path breaks belong on the building page.

How do we yank the bag without a second carrier?

Use the Plunger Gun prompts: Shoot, Pull / Release, Drop. Short pulls. Do not pendulum the cargo across a gap.

The bag escaped. What is the recovery order?

Call floor and heading, pin with one plunger, re-grip gently, then check for falls. Party order is on co-op. Route reset is in the walkthrough.

Should two people carry Punchy Bag together?

No. One carrier, handoff on a stable floor. Role split is on the roles page and the squad planner.
